Everton should be looking to sign PSV’s Denzel Dumfries instead of Man United’s Diogo Dalot this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with Dumfries so far this window. They are reportedly facing competition from Inter Milan for his signature.

The Dutchman was thoroughly impressive at Euro 2020 and PSV are expecting him to leave the club.

F365 Says: Ole’s deal brings more expectation than protection

Dalot joined Man United in 2018 from Porto. He has struggled to establish himself as a regular for the Red Devils and he spent the 2020/21 season on loan at AC Milan.

The Athletic reported last week that Everton are interested in Dalot.

Campbell has been speaking about their right-back targets with Goodison News. He believes that Everton are better off pursuing a deal for Dumfries:

“I’m not too sure about Dalot. I like Dumfries, I like him. I think Dalot…he’s got good attributes, but I’ve not seen enough of him to say. It’s a big shoe to come in and challenge Seamus Coleman.

“You need some who’s got that energy and that aggressiveness, and I’ve not seen enough of Dalot to say he is a great player. I’m sure he’s a good player but I’ve not seen enough of him.

“Dumfries, I’ve seen him and I watched him closely at the Euros, the boy was sensational.”

Elsewhere, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has suggested that Everton will be “stagnant” under Rafael Benitez:

“Is he going to light it up at Everton? Is he going to take them to the next level? Personally I don’t think he will. Sorry Everton fans!

“He’s a legend at Liverpool for that famous game, coming back from 3-0 down in the Champions League, which was Gerrard-driven 100 per cent and I know that.

“After Liverpool you look where he’s been… Newcastle he didn’t really set them alight, he kept them afloat.

“I just feel he’s going to be a little bit stagnant at Everton.

“With the signings he’s made, again they’re free transfers and they’re not going to light the team up and take them to the next step. Are they going to make more signings? We’ll see.

“Rafa, I’ve got nothing against you, mate, but everyone’s got an opinion!”
