Kevin Campbell has insisted that it would “make no sense” for Leeds United’s “incredibly talented” Raphinha to leave to sit on the bench.
Raphinha made the move to Leeds United from French side Rennes last summer. He was one of a few marquee signings as he joined the newly-promoted side for around £17m.
It did not take the midfielder long to settle in at Elland Road. He got six goals and nine assists for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the Premier League.
Leeds ended up finishing ninth in their return season in the top flight. Raphinha was one of their best players and his showings caught the eye of their rivals.
Liverpool are included in the teams said to be interested in him. Campbell has told Football Insider that Raphinha deserves better than being stuck on the bench:
“I think they can if he’s going to be playing.
“A lot of the bigger clubs might want him but the possibility of him playing is very, very low.
“What’s the point of going to sit on a bench somewhere? It makes no sense.
“The fact of the matter is he will get an opportunity to play at Leeds. You’d like to think he will go where the appearances are as opposed to going where the money is.
“He could easily find himself sitting on the bench at Liverpool or City even though he is an incredibly talented player.”
“Bruno Fernandes played with me for a year that seemed like many more at Sporting. He became almost an older brother. We talk every day, but no football, just our antics. Even from a distance, it helps me a lot.
“At Manchester United there’s Alex Telles and Fred, who’s from the south too.
“But in Liverpool there is Alisson who is from the south too, so everything stays the same. There is still Fabinho, who is from the same as Firmino and I.
“In fact, did you know that Firmino was the first guy who texted me when I came here? He’s a great friend.”
