Rangnick talks with Haaland's father

Ralf Rangnick has reportedly held talks with Erling Haaland’s father over a proposed £68m move to Manchester United in 2022.

After scoring 29 times from his 27 outings for Red Bull Salzburg, Haaland was linked with a move to Man Utd.

This came ahead of the winter transfer window in 2019/20. The forward eventually opted to sign for Borussia Dortmund and they paid around £17m to sign him.

The ‘dark truth’ about Ole at Man Utd, ‘irresponsible’ Klopp and…

The 21-year-old has been in prolific form for the Bundesliga outfit. He has netted 76 goals from just 74 appearances across all competitions.

Haaland is expected to leave Dortmund next summer as his £68m release clause will become active.

His agent – Mino Raiola – has named Man City among four potential destinations for his player.

Manchester Evening News are now reporting that Rangnick has recently held talks with Haaland’s father – Alf-Inge Haaland – in an attempt to entice his son to join Man Utd.

Rangnick is said to have a good relationship with Alf-Inge. This goes back to 2018 as the United interim boss helped secure Haaland a move to Red Bull Salzburg from Molde.

Elsewhere, John Arne Riise has suggested that the Man Utd target would “suit” Liverpool:

“Obviously I would love to have him at Liverpool, because he’s an unbelievable player.

“He’s in great form, and I think he would suit (Jurgen) Klopp’s style of football. I also think he would love Liverpool as a club.

“But if (Man) City got him, wow! You talk about unbeatable teams, then that would be close!”

Riise added: “Whoever gets Haaland, whether it’s next season or whatever, is going to be an unbelievably strong team for many years to come.

“I don’t know if Liverpool have the chance to sign him, but if they do then please do, because that would be unbelievable for the club, or for any club that signs him.”

Riise also wants to see Haaland in the Premier League to boost the number of Norwegian players in the country:

“Norway has been lacking players in the Premier League in the last few years.

“I hope Haaland comes to the Premier League. I hope he comes to Liverpool, obviously, but for Norwegian football it is important to get a player like that in the Premier League.”
