Sergio Ramos has “no future at Real Madrid” with his contract set to expire later this month, according to reports in Spain.

Ramos has been a mainstay for the Spanish giants since he joined them in 2005 from Sevilla. Madrid splashed out around €27m for the defender.

Since then, he has played over 650 times for Real Madrid. In 2015, he replaced Iker Casillas as club captain as the goalkeeper signed for Porto.

Every Premier League club’s most valuable asset

Ramos is a five-time winner of La Liga with Madrid. He has also won the Champions League four times. On top of this, he has also won the Copa del Rey and UEFA Super Cup on several occasions.

The defender’s contract expires at the end of this season. Spanish outlet AS have reported that Ramos has “no future” at Real Madrid and a “divorce seems certain” this summer.

Ramos was asked to take a 10% pay cut to resign, but he has declined this offer. He believes that the club asked him and others to accept a lower salary so Madrid could move for Kylian Mbappe.

Man United have been heavily linked with Ramos in recent months.

Elsewhere, Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on Man United’s Europa League final defeat to Villarreal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were the favourites in the final but they underperformed against Unai Emery’s men. They eventually lost 11-10 on penalties.

Bruno Fernandes was not at his best in the final and Wenger has suggested that his showing was down to “fatigue” and him missing the spark:

“I personally feel that he finished the season on his knees, and he missed the spark. And sometimes you can see as well, I found him much more nervous in the game.

“So that as well a sign of fatigue. Your top-level is calm, concentration, control. And in the last four or five games, I find him a bit weak on that front. So I hope that he can recover to be efficient for Portugal.

“I know Bruno wants to play but sometimes you make decisions for the benefit of both the team and him.”
