Richard Foster (hernia), Seb Faure (thigh) and Stevie Smith (back) are all still out through injury and Lithuanian Marius Zaliukas and Ryan Sinnamon (Scotland) are away with their respective countries.
Manager Stuart McCall said: “Big Zaliukas is playing against England and in fairness to him he is flying back up Saturday morning at half 10 and wants to bring his boots to Ibrox to be involved.
“I had to say to him ‘You will be chasing Rooney and Welbeck around Wembley I think you’ll need a lie down and a long sleep!’ It shows his commitment and he wants to be back up and he will be back in the dressing room with us.
“We have a four or five defenders unavailable and Sinnamon is away with the Scotland U19 team so we will have to shift about, but one or two of the young boys will come in. Kris Boyd is back and available.”
Cowdenbeath head to Ibrox with assistant manager Lee Makel in charge as Jimmy Nicholl is on international duty with Northern Ireland.
The Blue Brazil will miss John Herron and Dean Brett with ankle injuries and the banned Kenny Adamson.
Nicholl said: “Rangers will be buoyant after winning at Hibs so we need to be prepared for a difficult start to the game. They mixed things up tactically for the game at Easter Road and it worked well however they may change things back for a home game
“I have prepared the team all week with the objective of not letting any goals in and hopefully they will manage that.”
