Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has provided an update on the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of their crunch clash with Tottenham on Saturday evening.

Ronaldo missed the Manchester derby last weekend, as did Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane.

Man Utd must show a Tuch of class after latest manager twist

United were convincingly beaten by their rivals Manchester City last weekend and will be looking to get back on track when they take on Spurs.

The game against Antonio Conte’s side will be vital for both teams in the race to qualify for the Champions League and Rangnick is well aware of the importance.

“We are full aware of importance of tomorrow. We have to win that game, fully aware of that. We’ve had a good week of training,” said the German.

On if Cristiano Ronaldo is available for the game, Rangnick said: “He resumed for training yesterday. He trained the whole training session and I expect him to train today.

“I would’ve thought he was available tomorrow.

“I haven’t asked him if he’s happy at Manchester at this club. He’s fit again, resumed training yesterday and we shall see which formation we will line up with tomorrow.

“It doesn’t make sense to look back on what happened the last six or seven days, what is important is what happens tomorrow. Not to go through all this. He and Edi [Cavani] are both available for tomorrow.”

Whilst Ronaldo and Cavani are back for United, defender Shaw will remain unavailable after still testing positive for Covid and they also have a fresh injury concern with Scott McTominay picking up a calf injury.

“Luke Shaw will miss out. Until yesterday, still testing positive for Covid.

“Scotty is a question mark, problems with his calf. Right now it’s more likely he will not be available because if we risk him tomorrow he might be out for the game on Tuesday (against Atletico Madrid). I tend to be careful if it’s a muscular injury.”

Rangnick also revealed what he believes Marcus Rashford needs to do to improve his form.

“To play on the same level he trains. This is all, we spoke about that a week ago, two weeks ago in a press conference.

“Marcus is training well, he’s got an abundant of talent, he’s got almost everything you need for a modern striker, it’s about transforming the performance of the training sessions into the regular games.”
