Rangnick speaks on Elanga

Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he “watched videos on YouTube” of Manchester United starlet Anthony Elanga before he joined the club in December.

After a spell at Malmo, Elanga signed for Man Utd in 2014. He progressed through United’s academy and he made his debut for them last season.

The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the Red Devils on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign against Wolves.

Elanga has impressed in Premier League 2 this term as he has been involved in six goals from his eight games.

He has started United’s last two games in the league. He performed well against Aston Villa and on Wednesday night he scored against Brentford.

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford also scored as Man Utd ran out 3-1 winners.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Rangnick has revealed how he was made aware of Elanga. He has also confirmed that he will not go out on loan this month:

“I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up,” said Rangnick.

“l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good.

“He was almost on his way out on loan. I told him: ‘You will not go out on loan, you will stay here.’ He has developed in training.”

Rangnick also said after the win over Brentford that he “had to change a few things” during the break:

“It was not a strong conversation [at half time], but obviously we had to change a few things.

“The first half was not good in all aspects of the game. In the second half, we were more urgent. We attacked higher up the pitch and took the right decisions in the counter attack and we scored, which is the big difference.

“Elanga followed up on the performance he showed at Villa Park. He was outstanding in the second half, put in a lot of work against the ball and then he scored the first goal.

“But I am happy for all our young players tonight – three young English goalscorers.”
