Real Madrid confirm summer departure of club legend Ramos
Real Madrid have confirmed that captain Sergio Ramos will leave the club at the end of his contract in June.
The centre-back’s future has been the subject of much debate in recent months.
Real president Florentino Perez, keen to usher in a new era at the Bernabeu, refused to meet Ramos’ contract demands.

As such, he was linked with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
The two clubs can now contact his agent over a move after his Real departure was confirmed on Wednesday.
A club statement read: “Real Madrid C. F. announces that tomorrow, Thursday 17 June, at 12:30pm, an institutional act of tribute and farewell to our captain Sergio Ramos will be held, which will be attended by our president Florentino Perez.
“Sergio Ramos will then appear before the media in a virtual press conference.”
The player’s exit is the end of an era for Los Blancos. He’s made 671 appearances for the club since joining from Sevilla in August 2005.
He’s helped the club to win five La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and four Spanish Super Cups in that time.
His best achievement with Real was the unprecedented Champions League domination under Zinedine Zidane. They became the first side to defend the trophy in 2016/17, before going on to win it for a third time the following season.
Ramos was part of an incredible lineup which included Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos.
The 35-year-old’s final season with Real was hampered by injury, however. He was limited to just 15 La Liga appearances throughout the campaign due to a knee problem and then coronavirus.
Ramos will now focus on his next destination, which could be his final one before hanging up his boots.
United are thought to be considering him as a potential centre-back partner for Harry Maguire, albeit a short one.
PSG are one of the few clubs who can match his huge demands and could submit a bid in the coming weeks.
Ramos’ position in the Real squad will be taken by David Alaba. The Austria captain decided to leave Bayern Munich in search of a new challenge.
He will now help Los Blancos to challenge Barcelona and Atletico for the La Liga crown.
