Real Madrid interest comes ‘too late’ as Liverpool seal signing

Liverpool have sealed the signing of Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho despite strong interest from Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

It was reported that the Portugal under-21 international, out of contract in the summer, was poised to join Jurgen Klopp’s side before being loaned back to the Championship club for the remainder of the season.

However, a deal for the teenager, who has scored seven times in 19 appearances this term, failed to materialise before the window closed.

Since then there have been rumours that Man Utd could hijack their deal, while there were rumours of interest in Carvalho from Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Carvalho has eight goals and six assists so far this season in 28 matches in all competitions but he’s experienced a small dip in form since his move to Liverpool fell through.

However, the Fulham attacking midfielder shouldn’t have to wait much longer to seal a move to Anfield with Spanish publication Nacional claiming that Liverpool have ‘closed the signing’.

Real Madrid ‘rubbed their hands’ when the Reds’ deal for Carvalho fell through in January after Liverpool had ‘accelerated the operation until an agreement was reached’ in fear of missing out on the Championship star.

Los Blancos have ‘generated fears’ at Anfield since too after they increased their offer to Carvalho with Liverpool almost accepting that he would end up at the Bernabeu.

However, the Fulham star has remained ‘loyal to Liverpool’ with Real ‘too late’ to the negotiating table after Klopp convinced him and met up with Carvalho’s family.

It is understood that ‘Klopp trusts him to be one of the pillars of the new Liverpool’ with his family enjoying life in England.

When Klopp was asked if Liverpool were still interested in the former England youth international at the beginning of February, he said: “I don’t know. We will see. We are obviously still interested, it would be crazy if we are not. It’s obviously not in our hands. It was late before the deadline and it didn’t work out. We will see what happens.”
