French champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ‘furious’ with Kylian Mbappe after he spoke out on reports he will not extend his contract.

L’Equipe reported on Monday evening that Mbappe has made it clear he will not trigger the one-year extension in his contract, meaning he can leave as a free agent in 2024.

This has made the Ligue 1 club give the 24-year-old an ultimatum: sign a new deal or be sold this summer.

Real Madrid have obviously emerged as the favourites to sign the French international, who is going to cost an absolute fortune if he does leave the Parisiens in the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos were close to landing Mbappe on a free transfer last year before he decided to sign a new contract, which he will not extend beyond next year.

And amidst reports he will not be doing so, Mbappe has spoken out in a statement to AFP.

The France forward insists PSG have known since the day he penned the contract that he would not stay beyond the 2023/24 campaign.

“PSG has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter that was sent only served to confirm what I had already told them,” Mbappe said.

The French champions are reportedly furious with the player after being left stunned by Mbappe’s decision.

Foot Mercato claimed on Monday that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is not happy with sporting director Luis Campos, with their relationship ‘cracking’.

Al-Khelaifi is apparently ‘mad with rage against Mbappe and Campos’, with the Qatari owners also ‘annoyed’.

The report adds that Real Madrid could make their move in the coming weeks after making the player their top target for 2024, when he could have been available for free – and definitely will be if he is not sold this summer.

Meanwhile, El Parisien reckon Mbappe wants to join Los Blancos now.

Mbappe sees the timing as perfect following Karim Benzema’s exit for Al Ittihad. He thinks it is an ‘unmissable opportunity’ and wants to become the club’s ‘new leader’.

The same outlet says some of the player’s entourage refers to PSG are ‘Prison Saint-Germain’. Rawr.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been linked with Mbappe, though a move to Real Madrid seems like the only realistic option for the forward.

All is not too bad in the French capital, however. They are reportedly close to signing Mallorca midfielder Kang-in Lee. Every cloud, eh lads?
