Real Madrid reveal Spain boss Lopetegui as new manager

Real Madrid have announced Spain boss Julen Lopetegui will be their new head coach after the World Cup.

Real have been without a manager since Zinedine Zidane stepped down from the role at the end of last month.

The Frenchman won three Champions League trophies in his two-and-a-half seasons in charge, having taking over from Rafael Benitez.

But he cited fatigue and Real’s need for different guidance when explaining his decision to resign.

A number of Premier League managers were reported to be potential replacements, including Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte and even former Bernabeu boss Jose Mourinho.

But Real announced on Tuesday that Spain head coach Lopetegui will assume the role after the World Cup.

Lopetegui is unbeaten as Spain manager since taking over after Euro 2016, with Spain one of the favourites for the tournament this summer in Russia.

Enjoy that sigh of relief, Tottenham fans.
