Real Madrid’s Modric ‘accepts suspended prison sentence’
Luka Modric has reportedly accepted an eight-month suspended prison sentence on tax fraud charges.
The Real Madrid midfielder is alleged to have used a Luxembourg-based company to illegally squirrel away over €870,000 that should have been paid as Spanish income tax.
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Modric has come to an agreement with the authorities that will see him handed an eight-month suspended sentence.
The Croatian’s legal troubles continue, however, as he is still awaiting a trial date on perjury charges in his native country, alongside Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. The pair are accused of giving false statements in the trial of former Dinamo Zagreb director Zdravko Mamic earlier this year, which resulted in Mamic being jailed for six-and-a-half years.
