Man United reject being chased by Wolves and two other Premier League clubs as Ten Hag eyes replacements

According to reports, Wolves have entered the race to sign out of favour Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 25-year-old, who signed for United for £50m in 2019, has made just one four-minute appearance under Erik ten Hag this season.

Julen Lopetegui’s side will reportedly battle Wan-Bissaka’s former club Crystal Palace, along with Fulham, for his signature, with the Englishman free to leave Old Trafford in January.

Wan-Bissaka has quickly fallen out of favour with Ten Hag after making just one substitute appearance this season against Liverpool in the FA Cup. Clearly, he is surplus to requirements.

It is believed United would be open to a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer to get Wan-Bissaka off the books.

The former Crystal Palace Player of the Year has a contract which lasts until 2024, while United have the option of another year in the deal.

Wan-Bissaka was big news when he arrived at Old Trafford, close to an England call-up and one of the quickest players in the Premier League.

However, over the course of the last 18 months, Diego Dalot has gradually earned his place ahead of Wan-Bissaka.

Ten Hag has clearly made up his mind on the Englishman as he was listed for transfer as early as November 27th, according to TEAMtalk.

A move for Wan-Bissaka would make sense for Wolves, given their current right-back Nelson Semedo has struggled to find form this season.

Generally, Lopetegui’s side are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after losing nine of their 15 opening matches, putting them bottom of the Premier League table.

Wan-Bissaka could definitely be a more solid option to Semedo, if he can get back to playing at his best.

United in the market for a new right-back in January

As for Manchester United, while they are currently looking for reinforcements in attack, it is widely known that they also want to sign a new right-back.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano recently detailed Ten Hag’s plan for a mini-overhaul in the position.

He said: “Man Utd have decided internally to extend the contract of Diogo Dalot,

“To negotiate on a new, long-term contract and make an offer.

“The second step: sell Wan-Bissaka and the third step is sign a new right-back.”

According to the Mirror, United have a three-man shortlist to replace the Englishman.

The first of which is Lyon prospect Malo Gusto, who, after impressing in Ligue 1 for the past two campaigns, has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford since last summer, so he is perhaps the favourite to be signed in January.

Although, Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes remains untroubled by the links.

He said: “We are very relaxed with Jeremie. It would be fatal if he didn’t draw attention to himself from big clubs with these performances.”

“He is very conspicuous with his way of playing and is an enormously important player for us. I told him that he will still get his playing time with his quality.”

The final option on the reported ‘shortlist’ is Denzel Dumfries, who joined Inter Milan at the beginning of the season.

The Dutchman has been in tremendous form at the San Siro and performed admirably at the World Cup, too.

However, Inter have taken the stance that it would require a huge offer to force a sale in January.

So, while it looks like an almost certainty United will sign a right-back in the upcoming window, they may need to look further afield from their top three candidates.
