Report: Arsenal insert break clause into Emery’s contract

Arsenal can dismiss Unai Emery one year early after it was discovered that the club inserted a break clause into his contract, according to reports.

The former Sevilla boss, who signed a three-year deal, took charge at the Gunners just over a week ago after Arsene Wenger left the club following 23 years at the helm.

The Times claims that the break clause in Emery’s contract can be triggered after two years, meaning Arsenal wouldn’t have to pay up the full value of his contract in the final season.

It has been a summer of change at the Emirates with Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat coming in to play key roles in the recruitment side of things, while Emery has the title of head coach – a change from Wenger’s role.

The break clause gives Arsenal a cheaper way out if Emery’s first two years in charge turn out to be a disaster and they decide to dismiss him early.

The Times continues by saying that the north London club wanted to learn from Manchester United’s mistake of giving David Moyes a mammoth six-year deal to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson.
