Report: Juventus eyeing Martial on free transfer

Juventus are reportedly keen to sign Anthony Martial from Manchester United on a free transfer.

Martial was linked with an Old Trafford exit having failed to convince Jose Mourinho of his claim to a first-team place.

Mourinho and Martial have had a rocky relationship since the Portuguese took over from Louis van Gaal in 2016, with some reports suggesting the manager wanted the club to sell their French forward during the summer.

Ed Woodward, though, would rather keep the 22-year-old and United are in talks with Martial representatives over a new contract.

Juventus, though, are monitoring Martial’s situation in the hope they can profit.

According to Calciomercato, Juve hope Martial can be tempted to run down his current deal before signing for the Serie A champions as a free agent.

The report states that Martial’s United contract expires next summer. But the club retain the option to trigger a one-year extension, which would mean Juve would have to wait until 2020 before Martial becomes a free agent.
