Mesut Ozil has reportedly given Barcelona a two-week deadline to decide whether they want to recruit the Arsenal star.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim that Ozil has yet to agree a deal with anyone, with his contract set to expire next summer.
They report that the player’s representatives have met with Barca officials recently to discuss a potential move to the Camp Nou.
The Germany playmaker, who has been linked with Man Utd, is desperate to discover whether Barca’s interest in genuine though with his future up in the air.
Barca apparently see Ozil as the main alternative to Coutinho, who would cost the La Liga club more than €100million.
Liverpool are still expected to play hardball over Coutinho with another approach for the Brazilian expected next month. The Spanish side failed with three summer bids for Coutinho and now they must decide whether they want to make another bid for Coutinho or go with the budget option of Ozil.
Ozil is able to talk to other foreign clubs from January and could leave Arsenal on a free transfer. The Gunners though have left an offer on the table for the player and his agent.
And earlier this week his agent Dr Erkut Sogut has suggested that his client could yet stay in north London.
He said: “Ozil wants to play another two to three years in the Premier League.
“Our contacts with Arsenal continue and are going in a positive way.”
