Arsenal are interested in signing Kaoru Mitoma from fellow Premier League side Brighton in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Gunners are looking at several new transfer targets after they missed out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Todd Boehly and his transfer team agreed to pay Shakhtar Donetsk’s €100m asking price, something which Arsenal weren’t prepared to do, while Chelsea also offered Mudryk double the wages on offer at the Emirates Stadium.

And now Arsenal have been forced to consider alternatives with Barcelona duo Raphinha and Ferran Torres reportedly on their list, while Brighton forward Leandro Trossard has also been mentioned.

90min now claims that Trossard’s team-mate at Brighton Mitoma ‘is also of interest to the Gunners’ as they look to bring in as many as two new signings before the window shuts.

Mitoma signed from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale on a four-year contract in August 2021 before going on loan to Belgium side Union SG, where he spent last season on loan.

He impressed enough in Belgium for Brighton to give him a chance in their team this season with the Japan international making 17 appearances and contributing four goals and an assist in the process.

Arsenal see Trossard ‘as a more-attainable target’ than Mitoma with the Gunners also said to be ‘monitoring Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’.

90min also claim in their report that Arsenal have ‘made contact with Barcelona to explore deals for Raphinha and Ferran Torres’ and it is technical director Edu who has ‘reached out to Barcelona as part of his search for possible alternatives’ to Mudryk.

Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 in the north London derby on Sunday with the victory putting Mikel Arteta’s men eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Gary Neville still doesn’t think Arsenal will win the Premier League title, while Paul Merson has told them they should go after Raphinha if they want to maintain their place at the summit.

And now former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison insists that the Gunners also need to target another midfielder with any injury to Thomas Partey leaving them in trouble.

“I still think they need a central midfielder because if anything happens to Thomas Partey it will be a huge blow for them,” Morrison said on Sky Sports. “He has been outstanding.

“We talk about all the good attacking players but he sits there and it showing outstanding form that he was showing when he was at Atletico Madrid.

“I think he’s been brilliant.”
