Alexis Sanchez sought to leave Manchester United after being told he would only be used in secondary cup competitions.
Sanchez is on the verge of joining Inter Milan on a season-long loan – although he will still be United’s fourth-highest earner.
Romelu Lukaku is said to have played a key role in persuading the Chilean to join him in Italy, suggesting that the way of life is much more preferable.
It was claimed that Sanchez could be forced to stay at Old Trafford to provide attacking cover after Anthony Martial suffered an injury against Crystal Palace.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to be happy with his options, as teenager Mason Greenwood is impressing in training.
Sanchez was offered the chance to stay in Manchester but, according to The Times, ‘agreed’ to leave after being told of just how far he had been demoted.
‘Sánchez, 30, agreed to a move after United made it clear to him that he would play only in the Europa League and Carabao Cup competitions,’ Paul Hirst writes.
