Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho used Alexis Sanchez’s huge salary to ‘provoke a reaction’ from the player in front of his team-mates, according to reports.
A report claimed last December that Sanchez had bet on Mourinho’s sacking with his fellow team-mates, a claim which Sanchez strongly denied at the time.
The Chilean’s relationship with Mourinho had reportedly become strained over the months leading up to the Portuguese coach’s dismissal in December 2018, with Sanchez understood to be at ‘breaking point’ when he was left out of United‘s squad for their Champions League clash with Young Boys in November 2018.
Sanchez has struggled during his time at Old Trafford and he is now on the verge of joining Inter Milan on a season-long loan – although he will still be United’s fourth-highest earner.
Not only that but ‘two sources’ say that Mourinho raised ‘Sanchez’s extortionate wage package — once in front of team-mates — in a bid to provoke a reaction from the player’.
The report adds that life was ‘uncomfortable’ for Sanchez under Mourinho and that it was a ‘dressing room fuelled by loathing and resentment’.
