Man Utd-linked Thomas Tuchel prowls the touchline

A report has revealed that Man Utd have now given up on their efforts to persuade Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to join them in the summer.

Tuchel recently dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford and reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea, saying “I’ve said many times that I love to be here”.

Man Utd are actively seeking a new permanent manager for this summer with interim boss Ralf Rangnick set to move into a consultancy role, and Tuchel has been heavily touted for the position in recent days.

Man Utd’s five midfield targets: the cases for and against

The Red Devils are understood to be big admirers of Chelsea’s German coach, but Tuchel himself rejected the notion.

Chelsea remain in a state of flux amid the Blues’ impending sale, but Tuchel has led the Stamford Bridge team to five successive wins to help temper that uncertainty.

Asked about the links to Man Utd on Friday, Tuchel replied: “There’s actually no reaction at all.

“Because do you feel me less committed to the club or less involved in the club in my situation? Absolutely not.

“I’ve said many times that I love to be here, that I love to work for Chelsea and that this club has everything that it needs to make me happy.

“And that’s why there’s no need. And we have plenty of reasons to stay in the moment here, and this is what we do.”

And now the Daily Mail concede that there is ‘a growing acceptance at United that too many stars would have to align for Thomas Tuchel to leave Chelsea while the crisis-hit club are still looking for new owners’.

The report adds: ‘It may take some time for Tuchel’s future to become clear and United want to have the new man in place as soon after the end of this season as possible.’

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell doubts Rangnick’s recent trip to Barbados will be well received by Man Utd supporters.

Campbell told Football Insider: “For some fans, it will never look right.

“Who knows if this was a commitment he had ages ago. These things are not normally booked on a whim. They tend to be booked months in advance and that was probably the case here.

“Look, it is what it is. Rangnick is the interim manager. United have not been doing great but he has helped steady the ship.

“Yes, they got knocked out of the Champions League but they were not expected to win it. For me, he’s doing his job. I do not read too much into it.”
