Richards lauds ‘outstanding’ player for ‘coming of age’ post-Man Utd

Micah Richards has heaped praise on Leeds United winger Dan James as he has “come of age” since leaving Manchester United.
James progressed through the ranks at Swansea City. After impressing for the Championship side, he signed for Man Utd for £15m in 2019.
The winger impressed in fits and starts for United but he lacked consistency during his two years at the club.

Leeds United paid around £25m to sign the Welshman at the start of the 2021/22 season.
James has been relied upon this term as Leeds have struggled with injuries. He scored a brace against Aston Villa on Wednesday night as the rivals drew 3-3 at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old will come up against his former club on February 20 as Leeds host Man Utd at Elland Road.
After the draw against Villa, Richards said he believes that James would be an “absolute nightmare” to play against:
“He scored what two goals before the Villa game and he got another two today,” said Richards (via WalesOnline).
“I thought his all-round game was outstanding.
“He has played in a central role. At Manchester United, he used to get into some very good positions and fluff his lines a little.
“But I am now seeing a more measured and composed approach. His runs in behind, going from out to in. As a defender, it’s an absolute nightmare – and his link-up play is very good as well.
“Playing on the wing, to play as a striker, it’s different because you have your back to goal. You are playing against Mings and Konsa, who are very strong – no defender wants to play against pace and movement – and I think in this Leeds side he is coming of age.”
Speaking in November, James insisted that there is a lot more to come from him:
“I’ve not reached my potential yet.
“I’m getting a lot more game time now [at Leeds] and I’ve obviously got my own goals [to achieve]. I’ve got so much more I can improve on, so much more to give. Hopefully I’ll show that in the coming years.
“I do enjoy pressure, I thrive off it. I’m happy to take it.”
