Ferdinand backs Liverpool after Man City beat Madrid
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is backing Liverpool to win the Champions League, claiming rivals Bayern Munich “may have peaked a bit early”.
The reigning champions are Ferdinand’s favourites to reclaim the title despite Manchester City’s impressive win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Pep Guardiola’s side came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 on Wednesday night with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne putting City in control.
Liverpool’s trip to the Spanish capital ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week, but Ferdinand has backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to prevail at Anfield.
He said: “I can’t look no further than Liverpool, if I’m honest.
“I think they’ll go through against Atletico Madrid. I think it’s a tough game but I think Anfield gives it a different dimension.
“Bayern Munich looked great yesterday against a team who are searching for form and their own identity at the moment in Chelsea.
“So they may have peaked a bit early, who knows – going forward they are great but defensively I would be concerned a little bit about Bayern.
“But Liverpool are my standout favourites.”
