Ferdinand: Chelsea starlet is ‘up there’ among best youngsters in PL

Man United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher is “up there” with the best young players in the Premier League.
After having spells on loan at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City in the Championship in 2019/20, Gallagher joined West Brom last season.
It was a poor year for the Baggies as they were relegated straight back down to the second tier. But the Chelsea youngster was one of their only shining lights.

Leeds United were interested in taking him on loan this season but he ended up joining Crystal Palace.
Gallagher has been in great form for the Eagles as he has grabbed four goals and two assists from his ten Premier League outings.
His performances led to calls for him to be called up to the England squad. But he has been “ignored”, according to Ian Wright.
During the latest Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand claimed that Gallagher is one of the best young players in the Premier League:
“Shoutout Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher… If you’re looking at young players in the league at the moment, his name (Gallagher) will be up there.”
“He’s been in the England youth set up for a long long time, a World Cup winner with the under-17s four years ago.
“It can’t be long, if he keeps playing like this, before Gareth Southgate acknowledges he should be in the England squad. He’s doing it week in week out, whether they win or lose, he is performing without a doubt.
“I can see him getting into Chelsea’s first team.
“[Mateo] Kovacic is playing at the moment but there’s periods where he doesn’t play particularly well.
“Jorginho nobody was sure about then all of a sudden he is up for a Ballon d’Or. N’golo Kante, everybody seems to love, but he never gets mentioned when Chelsea lose or play badly. He’s only ever mentioned when they play well and win.
“I’m looking at that midfield, he is box to box Gallagher. Sometimes he turns up as the centre forward and at other times he’s on the edge of the own box.
“He can put his foot in for a tackle, he can finish. He’s dynamic, I think he’s pretty much got the lot.”
