Rio Ferdinand says he would be “very upset” with Man Utd loanee Dean Henderson if he was a Sheffield United defender after his mistake cost the Blades in a 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup.
The Gunners booked a place in their first domestic semi-final of the post-Arsene Wenger era with an away win at Bramall Lane.
Nicolas Pepe’s first-half penalty looked like it would be all that separated the sides but late drama saw David McGoldrick equalise with three minutes remaining, before substitute Dani Ceballos won it for Mikel Arteta’s side in injury time.
Henderson chose to stray from his goal line to close down Ceballos after he was allowed a lot of space inside the area – but the Spaniard just rolled the ball past the Man Utd loanee at his near post.
On Arsenal’s winning goal against Chris Wilder’s side, Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I spoke about this a while ago, as a defender I would be very upset with the keeper there.
“I’m saying to the keeper ‘the front post, nothing goes through the front post’.
“The goalkeeper union might suggest something different but when I was playing that was how I used to feel.”
