Rio Ferdinand says he would have “dragged” Renato Sanches to Old Trafford if he was a Manchester United scout.
Reports seemed to suggest United were leading the chase for Sanches at the turn of the year but it was Bayern Munich who swooped to tie up a deal for the youngster.
The Portugal international signed for the Bundesliga giants in May in a deal worth an initial £29million and he has now made ten appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Ferdinand is a huge admirer of the 19-year-old’s ability and was gutted to see the Red Devils miss out on the opportunity to sign the Euro 2016 winner.
“If I was a Man United scout, Renato Sanches would already be at the club,” Ferdinand told Portuguese daily A Bola.
“I’d have dragged him by his hair and said ‘let’s go’!
“Renato is a modern player: Aggressive, strong, powerful, got technique, can shoot and pass. I like him. He’s young, but takes responsibility.”
