Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on Leicester City’s “remarkable” striker Jamie Vardy as he has an “elite mindset” even at this stage of his career.

Vardy has been a key asset for the Foxes in the Premier League since 2014. He has scored 125 goals in the top flight from his 254 outings.

The 34-year-old has made a superb start to the 2020/21 campaign. He has netted seven times from Leicester’s first nine games of the season.

Spurs still stumped but Leicester solved the Kane conundrum

The Foxes currently sit ninth in the Premier League. They are level on points with Arsenal ahead of their game against Mikel Arteta’s side on Saturday afternoon.

Vardy has a great record against Arsenal. He has scored eleven goals against the Gunners from his 13 games.

As reported by BBC Sport, Rodgers recognised that Vardy has enjoyed a “remarkable career”:

“He’s a remarkable player, with an elite mindset,” Rodgers said.

“You can also see the humility in wanting to keep working and playing. We’ve had to manage him too, to make sure he can play at a high level. There’s not many better players.

“To this point in his life he’s had a remarkable career, and is still an important reference point for the younger players, a catalyst for what we do.”

Rodgers also praised Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool of late.

The Foxes boss suggested that Tielemans is one of the best players he’s ever coached:

“Youri’s one of the best professional players I’ve ever worked with.

“If you want a player who is brave, can interpret different style of play and work hard at it, it’s Youri. He’s only 24, a joy to work with, and a brilliant young player.”

Speaking last week, Rodgers insisted that Leicester will “do everything” they can to keep Tielemans:

“Naturally it’s one the club will do everything they possibly can in order to keep Youri.

“My focus is on making him the best player he can be. It’s between his representatives and the club and hopefully they will find a solution.

“He’s a wonderful guy to work with, and today’s was a sensational strike. He creates goals, he scores goals and he’s a real brain in our midfield.”
