Romano divulges Klopp ‘expectation’ for Liverpool midfield transfers over the next two windows

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are prepared to bring in “at least one or two new” midfielders over the next couple of transfer windows.
The Reds lost to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup in their first game back after the World Cup break but have bounced back since with two Premier League victories in a row against Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Those two wins have closed the gap to fifth-placed Tottenham to just two points with Liverpool having one game in hand on Antonio Conte’s men.
Liverpool haven’t been completely convincing since the break with some fans and pundits pointing to their midfield as their weak link.
Numerous midfielders have been linked with a move to Anfield with the January transfer market now open. And Romano claims Liverpool plan on buying “at least one or two new” midfielders over the next couple of windows and that has now become an “expectation” of Jurgen Klopp’s.
Romano wrote in his CaughtOffside column: “Midfield remain the focus but Liverpool insist they won’t pay €120m clause for Enzo Fernendez.
“I’m aware Jamie Carragher has expressed some doubts about signing Jude Bellingham, but, honestly, I think whoever signs Bellingham has one of the best talents in the squad and I think he’d be absolutely perfect for Liverpool.
“But Liverpool have more than one player in the list for January/June as midfield will have at least one/two new players in the next two transfer windows, this is the expectation.”
And Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Liverpool have sufficiently managed to replace Georginio Wijnaldum with the former Reds defender suspecting Klopp wants a different midfield.
“It feels to me that the midfield has morphed into more of a technical midfield rather than a high energy midfield and that’s what happens when you lose that Wijnaldum figure alongside a holding midfielder,” Carragher told Sky Sports after they beat Leicester.
“Right now, Liverpool tonight had Jordan Henderson – who isn’t as energetic as three or four years ago – but then the technical player like Thiago – and Harvey Elliott, Carvalho has played there at times.
“This midfield isn’t what you expect or what Jurgen Klopp really wants.”
Carragher thinks Jude Bellingham, who has been linked heavily with a move to Anfield, would be a great addition but they also need “another midfielder”.
“There’s talk of looking to bring in Jude Bellingham, why wouldn’t you, he’s a great player but they also need another midfielder to help them defensively,” Carragher added.
“Bellingham is a midfielder who likes to get forward, score goals and assists and it would be fantastic if Liverpool could get him but they need a Wijnaldum figure to come in in the summer.”
