Romano speaks on Depay

Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Memphis Depay may end up leaving Barcelona and Chelsea have been identified by someone else as a “possible destination”.

Depay finds himself in a tough spot at Barcelona. He performed well for them at the start of last season but he lost his place to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his move to Spain from Arsenal.

Now Barcelona have a new favourite toy as Robert Lewandowski has signed for them this summer from Bayern Munich.

This transfer leaves Aubameyang and Depay down the pecking order and both have been heavily linked with moves elsewhere.

Aubameyang looks set to get a move as he is currently undergoing a medical ahead of his permanent switch to Chelsea.

The forward is joining them as part of a cash-plus-player deal involving Marcos Alonso. He is set to pen a one-year deal and this will include an option for a further season.

Barcelona have managed to bring someone in themselves while this has been going on as Hector Bellerin has signed for them on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Depay’s situation is yet to be resolved, though. He will no doubt want to play regularly with the winter World Cup in Qatar now only a couple of months away.

With Aubameyang leaving, it did seem that Depay would be made to stay. But Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that a ‘last-minute solution’ is now possible.

The journalist has informed people to ‘keep an eye on Depay’ as his camp are ‘working’ to get him a move before Thursday night’s deadline.

A separate report from Gerard Romero revealed on Thursday afternoon that Chelsea are a ‘possible destination’ for Depay after the player ‘asked to leave’ Barcelona.

So two forward could be coming in at Chelsea and they are also set to sign a midfielder from Juventus.

This is because they have ‘reached a total agreement’ to sign Denis Zakaria on loan from the Serie A giants.

The 25-year-old has had his medical and Chelsea will have an option to buy him next summer.
