Paul Scholes took to Instagram to slam Cristiano Ronaldo having heard the news of the striker’s departure from Manchester United, before deleting the post after everyone had seen it.

Ronaldo left United by mutual consent as both parties decided to rip up the final seven months of his contract in the wake of the Portugal international’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club, manager Erik ten Hag and his teammates.

United announced that Ronaldo had left with immediate effect on Tuesday and Scholes illustrated the limited range of his swearing vocabulary in response.

Scholes took to his Instgram story to write: ‘Mission accomplished… a***d!’

Trying to work out what the word is? ‘Arsed’ apparently, which doesn’t really make sense and is a f***ing sh*t c*nt of a swear word, if it even is swear word worthy of being asterisked.

The United statement released on Tuesday evening read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

‘The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

‘Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.’

Ronaldo released his own statement following the news, writing: ‘Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

‘I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

‘I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.’

Another one of Ronaldo’s former teammates, one of his minions, Rio Ferdinand, had a more diplomatic take on the situation than Scholes.

He told the BBC: “I think both parties will be delighted now. He obviously did that interview with the mindset that he wanted to get out of the football club.

“[He] wasn’t happy, made it very clear, but I also think Erik ten Hag has got what he wanted as well in this situation. Both parties are happy, move on, next chapter for Cristiano Ronaldo.”
