Nick Fenton is hopeful of overcoming a back injury to feature in the game. The 31-year-old defender did not train with the Millers on Thursday due to the knock but he hopes to be fit for the League Two fixture.
As well as a possible defensive reshuffle, Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore has some decisions to make regarding his midfield.
Jason Taylor returns from suspension for the match and comes back into the side, while Moore is pondering handing on-loan Arsenal man Mark Randall a start.
One player who will not feature in the clash, however, is Ryan Cresswell, who is training again after breaking his collarbone but is not yet match fit.
Crewe’s Shaun Miller will miss the game.
The striker did not reappear for the second half of the 6-2 defeat to Northampton on Tuesday night due to a thigh strain.
Joel Grant replaced Miller at Sixfields and he is likely to come back into the starting line up with Clayton Donaldson still suspended.
AJ Leitch-Smith, who opened the scoring against the Cobblers, is fit. He was only taken off as a precaution at Northampton as he begins to be reintroduced to first-team football following his lay-off.
Captain David Artell played the full 90 minutes in midweek and the defender suffered no reaction to his recent calf problem.
Changes at the back could be in order though, after letting in six goals, with Adam Dugdale and Mat Mitchel-King available to boss Dario Gradi.
