Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has opened the door for Bastian Schweinsteiger to return to the club after a disastrous year at Manchester United.
The 32-year-old German midfielder has been ostracised by new United manager Jose Mourinho and is training with the youth players alongside other unwanted players like Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj.
Schweinsteiger left Munich last summer for £6.5m but played in only 18 Premier League games in a season punctuated by fitness issues.
“Should he speak in the future at some point about a desire to return then we will discuss it with him,” Rumenigge told Bild.
Bayern captain Philipp Lahm also welcomed a possible return for his former teammate, saying: “It is important to involve deserving players. A man like him was predestined to work with the club, he knows everything and everyone.”
