Giggs: Telles can impact Man Utd like Liverpool man did at Anfield

Ryan Giggs reckons Man Utd defender Alex Telles can have the same impact at Old Trafford that Andy Robertson did at Liverpool.

Telles scored 26 goals and contributed 57 assists over four years at Porto and, after producing an impressive performance in the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, Man Utd fans will be hoping for a similar return.

Since moving to Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, Robertson and his team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold have set the standard for any modern-day full-back.

And Man Utd legend Giggs thinks new signing Telles could provide the Red Devils with the “extra dimension” which Robertson provides Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Giggs told Webby & O’Neill Podcast: “With Telles, that’s something we’ve been missing.

“You look at Trent, Robertson, the goals they provide. Now, full-backs have to have that in their armour.

“They have to be like that, if the wingers are coming in, the full-backs have to create the width and make goals.

“It looks like he might have that extra dimension as well with creating goals.”

Donny van de Beek, meanwhile, who signed for Man Utd in the same window as Telles, is yet to start a Premier League or Champions League match, with his two starts coming in the League Cup.

On Van de Beek, Giggs added: “I think with Van de Beek, it’s how does he get in the team?

“When he’s come on, he’s impressed, he always looks like he’s got a goal in him. He scored for Holland during the international break.”
