Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Lucas Torreira after Sampdoria’s president revealed they had agreed to sell him.

Torreira has emerged as Arsenal’s main target for their planned central midfield reinforcements.

The 22-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s best young talents, with Arsenal expected to pay around £27million to sign him.

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has basically confirmed the move on Italian television.

“La Samp does not sell unless there are excellent offers,” he told TMW.

“We do not look for buyers, we have natural talents whose value increases exponentially

“Torreira has left for €30million (£26.3m), I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him.

“We took a gamble on him and we won, paying just €3million.

“The money that comes in will be used to improve the team.”
