Maurizio Sarri has finally offered a Chelsea lifeline to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Loftus-Cheek was named in Thursday’s 23-man England squad, but his place in Gareth Southgate’s selection was in spite of Chelsea, not because of them.
The midfielder has played just 22 minutes of Premier League football this season as Sarri’s side have maintained a perfect record.
Loftus-Cheek was expected to make an impact after impressing at the World Cup and on loan with Crystal Palace.
But after not being handed a first-team opportunity, the 22-year-old was left ‘fuming’ when Chelsea blocked two loan moves abroad.
It appears that the Blues have Loftus-Cheek in their plans however, with Sarri praising his recent progress.
“I can say that I am very, very happy with him because in the last 10 days he has improved a lot. I am really very happy with him,” he said.
“I think that he will be important for sure. In September we will start playing every three days so he will be important and useful for us.”
