Palace may lose Zaha

The Saudi Pro League are reportedly set to ‘make a further pitch’ to Wilfried Zaha after the Palace star initially rejected a move to the Middle East.

Following an unsuccessful spell at Man Utd, Zaha returned to Crystal Palace in 2014. His loan move was made permanent in 2015 and he has established himself as a club legend over the past ten seasons.

The 30-year-old has now arguably reached his peak and he was involved in nine goals in 27 Premier League appearances in 2022/23.

Zaha was heavily linked with Arsenal and Chelsea last summer but he is likely to leave Crystal Palace on a free transfer before next season.

His current contract is due to expire and it is being reported that he has rejected a £200,000 a week offer from Crystal Palace.

The attacker may be looking to challenge himself at a European club who are competing in the Champions League or Europa League and he reportedly has ‘many proposals’ on the table.

But Zaha is unsurprisingly among the players being targeted by the Saudi Pro League and it was claimed last week that he has been ‘approached’ over a move to the Middle East.

The Daily Mail are now reporting that they are set to ‘make a further pitch’ to Zaha amid interest from PSG, Marseille and Lazio.

‘It could be a pivotal week in the life of Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha as the Saudi Pro League try once again to tempt him.

‘The 30-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, has a number of offers on the table not least the one from Palace which is reputed to be worth £200,000 a week plus a hefty signing on fee.

‘Paris St Germain, Marseille and Lazio have all made a pitch to the Ivory Coast international while he initially rejected a proposal from Al Nassr.

‘However, emissaries from the Saudi Pro League will hold further meetings with his agents this week in an effort to convince him to follow Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Neves and Co.’

Speaking before the end of the 2022/23 season, Roy Hodgson openly stated that he “hopes” Zaha will sign a new deal.

“The club has had conversations with him (over a new contract) and those conversations will continue,” Hodgson said.

“I have no idea what the outcome will be, or how advanced they are in one direction or the other.

“All I can hope for as a Palace fan is you will be able to see him playing for Crystal Palace after this season, but I really couldn’t give you an insight or update.”
