Schmeichel tells ‘crazy’ Man Utd player to ‘behave’; Shaw claims his teammates are the ‘problem’
Peter Schmeichel slammed Antony after he confronted Brighton defender Lewis Dunk during Man Utd’s 1-0 defeat on Thursday night.
Seagulls midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored a penalty deep into stoppage time to earn his side all three points at the Amex Stadium.
With around 20 minutes to go, Antony recklessly fouled Mac Allister and the Man Utd winger then squared up to Brighton’s Lewis Dunk, who was understandably far from pleased with the challenge.
This defeat is a boost for Liverpool, who are chasing a spot in the top four. Jurgen Klopp’s side are four points behind Man Utd, but Erik ten Hag’s team still have a game in hand.
Schmeichel thinks Ten Hag will be “very disappointed” with Antony as he was “lucky” to avoid being sent off.
“We had the incident with Antony where he went absolutely berserk and got a yellow card when he stood up to Lewis Dunk,” Schmeichel told Premier League Productions.
“That was a clear foul on him and it wasn’t given because it was the line that said we were playing to today and that’s fair enough.
“It’s a foul and the linesman is only 10 yards away. But I don’t like the reaction, this is crazy and he is a lucky, lucky boy staying on the pitch because that’s a red card, there’s no doubt about it.
“You cannot do that. And then he reacts like this. You cannot do that as a Man Utd player you have to behave yourself. This is revenge you don’t do that, you cannot do that in a game of football.
“Ten Hag is very disappointed and that even more so than the game being lost with one of his players reacting like that.”

Brighton were awarded their spot-kick after Luke Shaw was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area.
The England defender admits he made a “mistake” but he thinks United’s “problem” is that they “don’t score”.
“I know the problem, we know the problem, the problem is we don’t score,” Shaw told Sky Sports.
“In the first half we had three or four big chances that we should be scoring. I think that’s happened a lot of times this season.
“But then again it comes down to my mistake at the end, but the chances we had we have to be scoring these goals.
“The game is completely different if we score early on with the chances we do make.
“Just not clinical enough. I don’t really know what else to say to that. It’s disappointing I lost us a point at the end, but if you look at the first-half we could have been 3-0 up.”
