Clarence Seedorf agreed to join Real Madrid in the car park of a stadium in Italy.
Seedorf joined Real in the summer of 1996, and won four trophies in three years in Spain.
The Dutchman had previously enjoyed great success with Ajax, but left the Netherlands to join Sampdoria in 1995.
He spent one season in Italy before leaving for Real, a move which he says came about when he met Fabio Capello – then AC Milan manager but bound for Real – in a car park after a game.
‘Real Madrid wanted me when I was 14, but my parents didn’t let me go also because I had to finish school in Holland at that time. I agreed,’ Seedorf wrote on Instagram.
‘When I was playing in Italy, after the last game of the season I was at the garage in the stadium and I heard somebody calling me.
“Hey Clarence, will you come to Real Madrid with me?”
‘”‘Yes, I will Mister,” I answered.
‘That was Fabio Capello’s voice and the rest is history.’
