Pundit explains why Arsenal might consider Aubameyang exit

Former goalkeeper Shaka Hislop thinks Arsenal might be better taking the risk of losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for free than offer him a new contract on “a lot of money”.

The Gunners had a long-running contract saga with Mesut Ozil – who entered the final year of his contract – before signing a huge new deal with the club.

Ozil has been in and out the team since and former West Ham goalkeeper Hislop has urged Arsenal to think carefully before making the same mistake with Aubameyang.

“The trouble is, and I’m amazed Arsenal still keep doing this nonsense, his contract is running out and you’re going to have to put him on a lot of money,” Hislop told ESPN FC.

“I keep talking about Ozil and how that changes their abilities in terms of future transfers and bringing world-class talents in.

“You do that again with Aubameyang, who’s 30 now, and all of a sudden the next three or four years you have that same problem all over again.

“But that is a problem that Arsenal keep making for themselves. It’s beyond me how or why they do.”

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s top goalscorer this season with 16 goals in 24 starts in all competitions.
