Xherdan Shaqiri has spoken out about his ‘disappointment’ at his reduced role at Liverpool in 2019.

The Swiss star initially established himself in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans after his £13m move from Stoke last summer but has not started a Premier League game since late January.

Liverpool have already played three games this season, but despite having a relatively small squad he has featured for just 11 minutes.

“I’m disappointed that I did not play any more,” Shaqiri told Swiss publication Langenthaler Tagblatt. “Nobody likes to sit on the bench.

“It’s clear that I want more time. I have to look at the situation and find a solution.”

There are still two weeks remaining in the European transfer window so it is possible that Shaqiri will seek to push for an exit.
