Championship side Sheffield United are interested in taking Ben Davies on loan from Liverpool, according to reports.

The centre-back sealed a surprise move to Anfield in February during the club’s injury crisis.

However, he is yet to make a single appearance for the Reds and could be allowed to leave on a temporary basis before the upcoming campaign.

Goal claims that Sheff Utd are leading the race for his signature, despite having their initial approach rejected earlier this week.

The Blades wanted to include an option to buy in the deal, but Liverpool are only considering a loan switch.

Sheff Utd are expected to return with a suitable offer which could see the former Preston man play at Bramall Lane next term.

New manager Slavisa Jokanovic is yet to make any signings after arriving in South Yorkshire at the start of July.

He has a strong squad but is looking to add a few quality players to his ranks.

Davies fits the bill as he is a reliable defender who is yet to be given his chance in the Premier League.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to allow Davies to leave due to his replenished options in defence.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all returning to full fitness, while Ibrahima Konate was signed from RB Leipzig in May.

Sheff Utd aren’t the only side to be interested in Davies’ services. Scottish giants Celtic were rumoured to be plotting a loan move of their own last month.

They are searching for a new centre-half after selling Kristoffer Ajer to Brentford for a reported £13.5million.

Davies was described as a ‘Rolls Royce’ by Preston adviser Peter Risdale when his Liverpool move was confirmed.

The 25-year-old had hopes of making it into the first team for some matches, despite the tough competition.

But he is yet to make his debut and the arrival of Konate has only worsened his position.

Sheff Utd, meanwhile, are having to hold off Arsenal when it comes to talented duo Sander Berge and Aaron Ramsdale.

It’s been suggested that the Gunners are planning a double swoop worth £75m.

The Blades are likely to reject any offer as they consider the pair to be invaluable to their promotion push.
