Sherwood predicts how Liverpool, Spurs final will pan out
Tim Sherwood thinks it could be Tottenham’s destiny to win the Champions League trophy this season after coming close to exiting the competition on a number of occasions.
Spurs staged a remarkable rally from 3-0 down on aggregate at half-time against Ajax on Wednesday to reach their first ever Champions League final, against Liverpool in Madrid on June 1.
It was another show of Tottenham’s amazing powers of recovery after Mauricio Pochettino’s side took only one point from their opening three games at the group stage and also trailed Manchester City in the second leg of their quarter-final.
When asked on Sky Sports’ The Debate how much Liverpool would be favourites by, Sherwood responded: “Slight margin. They both know each other, inside out. I believe they are going to that game as favourites Liverpool, no matter who they were playing. But you can’t write off Tottenham.
“I think they have the quality, especially if they get some players fit. They have a month to do that now. Tottenham beat anyone on their day. I think they have the quality to do that and they have a top manager. If they all play to their maximum, Liverpool win. If Liverpool just switch off for a tiny bit, Tottenham will punish them and win the game.
“Maybe the names on it [the trophy] for Tottenham. They were written off at the group stages, no-one gave them a chance. No-one gave them a chance at the Etihad. No-one gave them a chance against Ajax. Now, they are going to Madrid.”
