Shkodran Mustafi has been told to “pipe down” by Arsenal legend Lee Dixon after the defender’s recent resurgence in form.

The Germany international has only started 15 matches this season in all competitions as he’s struggled for form – but he’s managed to impress recently, starting five matches in February.

However, Dixon wants to see him perform consistently over a longer period before he starts lauding him for his performances and new hairstyle.

“He [Mustafi] seriously needs to have a word with himself and pipe down a little bit,” Arsenal legend Dixon told The Handbrake Off podcast.

“Bang me 25 appearances out and 15 clean sheets then he can do what he likes with his hair and his sunglasses. Just sit back down for a bit and carry on churning the results out.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was “hurt” as the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday after they lost 2-1 to Olympiacos in the second leg.

“It hurts, big time. We had a lot of hope in this competition. It was a great way for us to be able to go to Europe and it is a very beautiful competition to try to win.

“I think we did a lot of positive things in the game. I think we created enough chances to win the game, but if you concede two set-pieces again in a tie like this, then you put yourself in big trouble.”
