The former Hibernian player is struggling with a knee problem and will be given a late test to prove his fitness, having undergone a scan.
Dark Blues manager Paul Hartley said: “He caught his knee in training on Thursday, did very little on Friday and felt OK throughout the Inverness game. He just landed awkwardly from a corner.”
But definitely missing the Tayside derby are Gary Irvine, midfielder Gary Harkins and striker Luka Tankulic.
Irvine and Tankulic have knee injuries while Harkins has a sore shin.
United can welcome back defender Ryan McGowan although midfielder Ryan Dow is doubtful with a groin complaint.
However, defender Calum Morris and striker Mario Bilate remain on the absent list with a thigh strain and hamstring concern respectively.
Despite a recent dip in form, United will be looking to maintain a perfect derby record this season. Assistant manager Simon Donnelly said: “There’s a pride element within the dressing-room because we’ve won three and want to keep that record going, and it’s something the supporters obviously enjoy.”
