Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that Sunday’s draw against Liverpool is only a good result if they win their next game.

Man United started the game slowly as Liverpool were the better side throughout the first half. But for Klopp’s side, reoccurring problems emerged again as they were unable to take the lead.

The hosts had nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, but only one of them were on target. The Red Devils did not show a lot of attacking intent to start with, but they improved in the second half.

United had the two best chances of the game in the second half. The first opening came in the 75th minute. Marcus Rashford let Luke Shaw in down the left-hand side and he pulled it back for Fernandes.

The Portuguese international struck it straight at Alisson which allowed the ‘keeper to make a comfortable save.

The best chance of the game came with seven minutes to go. Aaron Wan-Bissaka squared it to Paul Pogba who found himself clean through on goal.

He struck it well but his effort was close enough to Alisson that he was able to palm it away for a corner. It finished goalless though and this result moves Man United two points clear at the top of the table.

Speaking with BBC Sport post-match, Solskjaer admitted that he was left feeling a little bit “disappointed” at the result:

“It’s only a good result if we win the next game.

“It was an opportunity missed with the chances we had but then again we were playing a very good side. I’m disappointed but still a point is OK if you win the next one.

“We were stronger towards the end. We didn’t start at all in the first half. We didn’t have any composure or try to impose ourselves.

“The team is working hard for each other.

“We have improved and progressed. It’s not just the result we’re disappointed with, it’s some of the performance. I know these boys can play better.

“Fair play to them – with two central midfielders at the back and to defend as well as they did shows their quality.”
