Graeme Souness has urged Chelsea to make a move for Jan Oblak after his outstanding performance for Atletico Madrid as they dumped Liverpool out of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Adrian has a nightmare in goal for Liverpool, but Oblak was superb at the other end of the pitch.
The Slovenian made nine saves which is the most by any goalkeeper in a Champions League knockout match this season and the most by any at Anfield this campaign.
Niall Quinn hailed his performance in the RTE studio: “It was a tale of two goalkeepers.
“Oblak was absolutely superb, he was making saves all over and was impossible to breach at times.
“Liverpool will look back at this and say, ‘How did these not go in?!’, but you still felt even after that that it was going to come.
“It wasn’t perfect defending by any stretch, it was down to their keeper who was really keeping it out.”
And with Frank Lampard reportedly chasing a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Souness claims Chelsea should go all out for Oblak.
He asked his colleagues in the studio: “Do we know how old he is? (to which they replied: 27) There you go Chelsea!
“Chelsea are looking for a goalkeeper. He’s been a top man for a long time.”
Diego Simeone likened his star goalkeeper’s impact to that of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
“We have a goalkeeper who is the best in the world, no doubt,’ the Atletico Madrid head coach said.
“I have been saying that for some time.
“It’s like Barcelona who have Messi.
“He decides games with his attacking play; Oblak resolves them with his saves.”
