Souness HITS BACK at ‘cheeky chappy’ Grealish and reveals why he picked on Pogba
The FEUD between Graeme Souness and Jack Grealish has continued after the Liverpool legend HIT BACK at the Manchester City player following his comments on Wednesday.
It has been a war of words this week between Souness and Grealish, who have both given us some much-needed content and entertainment during the international break.
MEDIAWATCH: Grealish v Souness is the manufactured feud only an international week (and the media) could love
In all seriousness, how the media have spun all of this has been more fun to see than the actual words coming out of Souness and Grealish’s mouths. Mediawatch was a belter today.
To kick off the FEUD in question, the former Liverpool midfielder was bordering on a tad harsh in his assessment of the City and England winger earlier this week.
The 27-year-old had actually said following his first goal of the season against Wolves on Saturday that he has been disappointed with his performances for City and in particular his lack of goals and assists.
So I suppose the England international actually agreed with Souness that “he doesn’t deliver enough”. Although, if you’ve not got anything nice to say, Graeme, just don’t bother saying it, please.
In what has been widely perceived as Grealish HITTING BACK after Souness’ comments, the former Aston Villa captain laughed off what the Sky Sports pundit had to say.
“I don’t know what his problem is with me,” Grealish said with a smirk. “He always says stuff about me! But I try not to read a lot of it.
“Listen, he was obviously a great player and won a lot but I know he has a lot of stuff to… I don’t know what it is with what he says about me or what problem he’s got. I know my own ability.”
And now here we are, Souness has responded on talkSPORT.
The ex-Rangers manager and player says he doesn’t have a problem with Grealish and would actually “like to have a night out with him”.
I’m sure Jack is absolutely buzzing and will be prioritising getting your number, Graeme.
“I don’t have a problem with Grealish, I don’t have a problem with anyone,” Souness said.
“I think he’s a good player, technically he’s fantastic, but being a really good technician is only a part of the game. I don’t believe we can be critical of the modern player.
“I’m sure if I met Jack I would really like him. He’s a cheeky chappy and I’d like to have a night out with him as well, but I just feel the modern player doesn’t take criticism very well.”
One player Souness has always had something to say about is former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who left the Red Devils to join Juventus on a free transfer this summer.
His comments on the Frenchman have often been harsh and unnecessary, and Souness has now explained why he loved to pick on him.
“When I was having a go at Pogba, it was because it was Manchester United and my Liverpool connections, and I think I was the first one to call Pogba out as an average player in our league, and I think I was proven 100 per cent right at the end of the day.”
In fairness to Souness, Pogba was never the player people expected to be in the Premier League, so he probably was proven right.
