Villarreal defender Pau Torres is ‘back on the radar’ of Manchester United after a superb season in La Liga, according to a report.

Torres has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past but a deal has failed to materialise so far.

However, the 27-year-old has been in magnificent form for Unai Emery’s side so far this season, conceding just 27 goals in 29 appearances.

The defender is also now a Spain regular under Luis Enrique.

That, added to United’s defensive woes, has seen the Old Trafford club revive their interest in the defender.

United brought in French star Raphael Varane last summer but a number of injury setbacks have thwarted his United career so far.

Captain Harry Maguire has also struggled this season for form and their have been a number of calls for the England international to be dropped.

As reported by 90min, United are in the market for a new central defender but any deal will have to wait until the club’s hierarchy appoint a new permanent manager.

Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag appears to be the favourite after reportedly undertaking an interview with the club earlier this week, but he has admitted his solely focused on his current side.

“I’ve sat down with Ajax after every season so far. That will also be the case this time. I can say that Ajax and Erik ten Hag are very happy with each other at the moment.

“Everyone knows each other in the industry. There are always talks with representatives from other clubs, that’s normal. Manchester United is a great club with great fans.

“But I can only repeat myself: My full focus is completely on Ajax! We are already planning for the new season.”

The Dutchman added: “My focus is currently only on Ajax. But in football you never know. I don’t want to rule anything out. I’m currently employed here at Ajax to perform.

“With the cup final against [PSV] Eindhoven, we still have eight finals left, and I need all my energy for that. Anything else would just be a distraction.

“I know that in football everything can change from one day to the next. If at some point I should decide to take the next step, I hope that people here will understand.”
