Serie A outfit Cagliari want to sign Spurs defender Danny Rose, according to reports in Italy.

The 29-year-old has been with Tottenham for 13 years but has had several run-ins with the club over contract disputes.

And following the arrival of Jose Mourinho in November, Rose became a bit-part player and was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with the manager after being left out of the Premier League clash at Watford on January 18.

That saw him leave to join Newcastle United on loan for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign before returning to Spurs this summer.

His future remains up in the air despite claiming he “would love” to play for Tottenham again before leaving the club on a free at the end of the season.

Rose told the Second Captains podcast in August: “I am very happy to stay at Tottenham and see my last 10 or 11 months out, I would love to. There is nothing I want more than to play one more time in front of the fans.

“My last game for Spurs was a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool and at the time I didn’t know that was going to be or could be my last game for Spurs. I want nothing more than to play in front of the Tottenham fans one more time, just to cherish all the moments we have had over the years with them.

“They have always been good to me. I have possibly given them reasons in the past not to be so good to me, but they know when it was game time I gave everything for them. I will continue to do that as long as I am contracted to Tottenham.”

And now TuttoMercatoWeb (via Sport Witness) claims Serie A side Cagliari have ‘contacts in progress’ to bring Rose to Italy.

The short report says it’s a ‘new idea’ and that the Italian side continue to weigh up making a bid for the player.
