Spurs centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers rejected an offer to join Torino on loan this summer, according to a report.

The 23-year-old is a product of Spurs’ academy who has made five first-team appearances for the north London side.

He was available on loan during the recent transfer window due to Nuno Espirito Santo’s existing options at centre-half.

The manager has Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga at his disposal, as well as recent signing Cristian Romero.

Welsh international Joe Rodon will miss the Crystal Palace game on September 11 due to injury but could feature against Chelsea eight days later.

According to Football Insider, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy accepted a loan bid from Torino for Carter-Vickers.

The USA defender, capped eight times at international level, rejected the proposal as he wanted to remain in the UK.

A number of other loan bids failed shortly before deadline day and he went on to join Scottish giants Celtic.

He will link up with former team-mate Joe Hart, who moved to Celtic Park for around £1million on August 4.

Carter-Vickers’ contract was due to expire in June 2022, but Spurs have acted to extend it until after he returns from Scotland.

“I am absolutely delighted to agree this move to Celtic,” he said. “It is a really exciting opportunity for me and I am desperate to meet my new team-mates and get going for the season ahead.

“I know I am going to a huge club which means so much to so many people and I will be doing all I can to bring our fans the success which their support deserves.”

Meanwhile, Iranian goalscorer Sardar Azmoun has revealed that Spurs were one of four European clubs to be interested in him this summer.

The 26-year-old, dubbed the ‘Iranian Messi’, has also denied that he wanted a transfer.

“I never said that I was leaving Zenit,” he said. “The media wrote that I was undergoing a medical examination and agreed on everything with a certain team.

“When Lyon made the first offer, Zenit rejected it immediately. I have a contract, even if I wanted to leave, the club will not allow it. It was the media that sent me to another team.

“I don’t say anything myself. I myself am tired of this news. Don’t write about me. Every time I wake up, they send me to a different club. Please do not post about this. If anything happens, I will write myself.

“I had offers from Lyon, Roma, Bayer [Leverkusen] and Tottenham. But all the proposals were rejected, this year I will not move anywhere.”
