Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks Harry Kane has thrown Ryan Mason “under the bus” amid rumours he will leave Tottenham.

Various reports claim Kane has told Spurs he wants to leave the Premier League club this summer with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all linked.

He added fuel to the fire by insisting in an interview with Gary Neville that he needs a chat with Daniel Levy about his future, although he didn’t say he wanted to leave.

Mason, who took over from Jose Mourinho last month on an interim basis, has had to field some difficult questions since the report and interview came out.

And Robinson was “shocked” at the timing of the reports and accused Kane of throwing “his so-called good friend Ryan Mason right under the bus”.

Robinson told Football Insider: “I question his timing. Why did he do it with two massive games left? Spurs were still challenging for a European place at that point. His timing shocked me.

“I do not question his commitment to the club but I think he has been really badly advised by someone.

“He has thrown his so-called good friend Ryan Mason right under the bus. Every single press conference that Ryan Mason faces is about Harry Kane.

“It is already a very difficult time for the club without Kane pouring petrol onto the fire.

“I completely understand him wanting to leave but I question the timing and the way it came out. Why did he do it? He has been badly advised.”

Kane was named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for the European Championships on Tuesday with the England boss not expecting any possible transfer of Kane to happen during the Euros.

Southgate said: “I don’t feel I need to talk to Harry Kane regarding focus or professionalism. He has one goal with us and that’s to win the European Championship.

“He knows how important that is at this moment in time. What’s happening at his club is a matter for him and Tottenham. He’s made some statements in the last few days, but that is out of the way now.

“It’s very unlikely that transfer deals will be done while we are away. It’s different when we meet up in September and I’m very realistic that you can’t stop phones ringing, but most deals will be done at the end of the tournament or in the first week before it starts.

“I would expect most deals in terms of our players to be done after the tournament.”
